West African Energy Summit Highlights multiple licences across the Transform Margin with presentations from prominent Ministers and Governments

The West African Energy Summit, taking place between the 3rd to 5th of September 2024 in Accra, is poised to spotlight Offshore West Africa as the preferred investment hub for global operators eyeing the burgeoning opportunities in the region. The summit comes at a pivotal time, with recent discoveries in Cote d’Ivoire igniting significant interest in the highly prospective Tano Basin and broader transform margin, which extends across both Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.

The excitement surrounding the Eni SPA discovery of hydrocarbons in the exploration well Murene 1X (Calao) offshore Ivory Coast has sent ripples across the industry, particularly highlighting the immense potential of the Tano Basin. This discovery underscores the investment potential of the region for global operators seeking to bolster their portfolios in West Africa.

Further enhancing the appeal of Offshore Ghana is the huge opportunitiy surrounding the Pecan oil field, located in ultra-deep water offshore Ghana. Estimates suggest that the Pecan field could contain up to 334 million barrels of oil-equivalent, marking it as the largest discovery in the deep-water Tano Three Points (DWT/TP) block.

Mr. Dan Hyland, Operations Director of OGV Group, the organiser of the West African Energy Summit in collaboration with the Petroleum Commission, Ghana, expressed his confidence in Ghana’s potential and that of its neighbouring countries to international operators. “We believe Ghana holds huge international interest for global operators, and we are delighted to promote the wider transform margin as part of our summit. Given the recent commitment from the Ivoirian Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy – Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly to attend the summit, we are very excited that he will be sharing exclusive insights into the potential of the Ivoirian offshore basin in person at our event”.

The West African Energy Summit presents a unique opportunity for participants to gain comprehensive insights into the open acreage and farm in opportunities in the transform margin. With participation from key industry players and government representatives from Nigeria, Cote d`Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Gambia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Mauritania, Namibia and many more, attendees can expect unparalleled networking opportunities, expert insights, and strategic discussions that will further their business interests in West Africa.

Mr. Hyland added: “The West Africa Energy Summit will provide a New Ventures Forum, a National Showcase, a Petroleum Data Workshop and a ‘Skills and Training Workshop’’ all designed to examine and spotlight the very best energy opportunities across Offshore West Africa, at one conference – a feat never seen before,”
