28 October 2026 – Global ocean services provider DeepOcean has been awarded a contract by Tullow Ghana Ltd to execute a riser retermination project at the Jubilee field offshore Ghana.
The gas lift riser in question runs between the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah and the subsea production system at the Jubilee field.
DeepOcean’s EMEA organisation will provide project management, engineering, riser disconnection, deck-side retermination, reconnection and pre-commissioning services. The company will utilise the Orient Adventurer, formerly known as Polar Onyx, subsea construction vessel to perform the offshore operations.
“We have successfully deployed the Orient Adventurer on previous subsea construction projects in Ghana and are very familiar with the vessel’s capabilities in the region. The vessel’s vertical lay system (VLS) makes it particularly well suited for the safe and efficient deployment of the risers through the moonpool,” says Robin Mawhinney, Executive Vice President for DeepOcean’s EMEA region.
The project will be executed by DeepOcean’s teams in Accra, Ghana, and Sète, France, supported by engineering specialists based in Aberdeen, UK. The offshore work will be performed during the fourth quarter of 2026.
“Riser replacement and reactivation are core competencies of our onshore and offshore teams, and we look forward to supporting Tullow in the successful delivery. Our strong local presence in Accra and Takoradi, combined with DeepOcean’s technical expertise in subsea riser operations, has been instrumental in securing this award,” says Øyvind Mikaelsen, Chief Executive Officer at DeepOcean.
Orient Adventurer has recently returned to the DeepOcean fleet following a major upgrade and refurbishment programme. The vessel is equipped with a 2,500-tonne under-deck carousel and a refurbished Huisman vertical lay system (VLS) with 275-tonne top tension dynamic capacity, providing DeepOcean with significant additional subsea construction and installation capability once the Tullow campaign is completed.
The contract award reflects DeepOcean’s established track record in complex subsea construction and intervention projects, as well as its long-standing presence in the West-African offshore market. The contract will be executed by DeepOcean Ghana Limited, an indigenous Ghanaian company operating as a joint venture between DeepOcean and its local partner.
The Jubilee Field is one of West Africa’s most significant offshore oil developments, located approximately 60 kilometres offshore Ghana in water depths of around 1,100 metres. Production from the field is processed through the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah. The FPSO has a processing capacity of more than 120,000 barrels of oil per day and serves as the central hub for offshore production and associated gas handling operations at the Jubilee field.
