Accra, Ghana: 26th June 2024: The West African Energy Summit is thrilled to announce the confirmed attendance of His Excellency Mr. Birame Souleye DIOP, Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines of Senegal, at the upcoming summit scheduled for September 3rd – 5th, 2024 in Accra, Ghana. This exciting news follows Senegal’s milestone achievement of becoming an oil producer in Q2 2024, marking a significant step forward for the country and the entire MSGBC region.
Since 2017, Senegal has made substantial discoveries including four oil fields (FAN, SNE, FAN South, and SNE North) and three natural gas fields (Grand Tortue/Ahmeyin, Teranga, and Yakaar). These significant discoveries have attracted global upstream interest, positioning Senegal at the forefront of West Africa’s energy sector. The prolific Senegalese offshore, with world-class discoveries such as the SNE field—estimated at about 1,746 million barrels of oil and 862 billion cubic meters of natural gas—underscores the country’s potential. The Grand Tortue/Ahmeyin (GTA) deposit, located at the maritime border between Senegal and Mauritania, with 566 billion cubic meters, further exemplifies the strong political will behind Senegal’s hydrocarbons development.
In this context, the organizers of the West African Energy Summit and the Petroleum Commission of Ghana are delighted to welcome His Excellency Mr. Birame Souleye DIOP to the summit. His participation will provide an invaluable opportunity to set out his future vision for Senegal’s upstream oil and gas sector. The presence of His Excellency Mr. DIOP at the summit underscores the event’s prominence as one of the strongest Oil and Gas gatherings in West Africa for a decade. He will join other esteemed ministers from Benin, Ghana, Chad, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, and more.
“With such Ministerial attendance, the event is poised for resounding success,” added Mr. Dan Hyland, COO of the West African Energy Summit. The summit will also see the participation of National Oil Companies from Morocco, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, Namibia, and more, solidifying its status as a crucial platform for the region’s energy sector.
